When Was The Last Time You Said “Thank You” To Your Mom?
You may have seen that video on our Facebook page. Or somewhere else around the Internet. I have watched it like 6 times and have wept on it nearly as many times.
Please, watch it before you label me overemotional. If it doesn’t move you at all, then … well, then go on with the overemotionality. ☺
However you take it, the message is strong and I believe it’s worth having a word about it. Because we may not be all mothers, but we all have mothers who deserve to be acknowledged. As some of the participants in the #MeLady Project (Video 2 — What’s the best part of being a woman) said, motherhood is one of the best parts of being a woman of them all.
The issue bothering me is why then we think about it mainly around special days like the International Women’s Day (8th March). To be honest, it’s actually quite the same kind of bothering like the one I had about Valentine’s Day (you can read more here in case you missed it).
“All that I am or I ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother”, says Abraham Lincoln. “Mothers are endowed with a love that is unlike any other love on the face of the Earth”, completes the Lincoln’s thought the writer Marjorie Pay Hinckley. When you think of it, their words were, are and probably will always be truthful. After watching the commercial video of P&G (yes, the one that I cried over like 6 times), I decided to dig around the net for some more eye-opening video pieces on motherhood.
Look at what I found. ☺
#ItWasMom
Although we might not be Mormons, the video produced by the Mormon Church in The US is simply heart-melting. Similar to the first one, it reveals the mission of moms around the world, visualizing the gift of motherhood. “Both to those who have the privilege of being Mothers and to those who have the privilege of having moms”.
#SurprisedByMotherhood
This is the trailer for the debut book, “Surprised by Motherhood”, by the popular blogger Lisa-Jo Baker. Described as “rocket fuel for weary mamas” the book looks like (we haven’t read it yet) a long essay on what to expect when you are expecting. Anyway, its trailer is a beautiful visual tribute to all the women who face the challenge and the adventure of raising other little humans.
Why Moms Get Nothing Done
“Moms work their buns off all day and yet somehow nothing is done at the end of the day…this is why”, says the description of the next video on Youtube. Although that statement is a bit discussable, the clip is quite cute ☺
An open letter to moms
Here it is something for those who are already moms — few priceless pieces of advice for mommies, given by the adorable Kid President — Robby Novak. Only for people with a sense of humor! ☺ Get a pen and take notes. And remember, don’t name your kid “Phone”. ;)
All these videos are made to remind us from time to time that women should receive attention not only on 8th March. And this is valid not only for moms, but for so many other things in life. Important people deserve acts of kindness and they have to be acknowledged on a daily basis for what they are.
It’s pity that we need such videos to motivate us, but on the other hand — luckily there is something to keep us on the right track (even though it’s a commercial).
So, what are you waiting for? Take the phone and make a call. Nope, actually take the phone and make the other side smile. Because every day can be a Mother’s Day. ☺
Best,
Ves ☺
